LARSON SIGNS AS EARNHARDT GANASSI DRIVER

Fresh off of feature wins in his first two career paved Super Late Model starts, 19 year-old Kyle Larson of Elk Grove, CA has signed a NASCAR driver development contract with Earnhardt Ganassi Racing. Larson is currently running the World Series of Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway where he leads the Speedweeks points. His 2012 regular season will be in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, East for Drive for Diversity / Rev Racing. Larson won 22 features across multiple open-wheel series in 2011.

NELSON AND WADE COME TOGETHER TO TAKE OVER SHASTA

Shasta Raceway Park has been saved from extinction by former track promoter George Wade and Meridian Speedway promoter Adam Nelson.  Wade, who promotes Western Speedway in Victoria, Canada and Nelson will promote the speedway under an agreement to pay the fairgrounds $25,000 for the season or a percentage of ticket and concession sales, whichever is larger.  The three-year agreement will start this year with a 10-12 race schedule that will include the popular Shasta Fall Open Show.

 

HAGEN LEADS ALL 30 LAPS TO WIN USAC OCALA FINALE

Riverside's Darren Hagen dominated the USAC Amsoil National Sprint feature at Ocala, FL's Bubba Raceway Park leading all 30 laps for the feature win.  Justin Grant set a new track record with a nearly 14 second flat lap around the speedway and finished third in the feature behind Bryan Clauson.  Levi Jones and Thursday night winner Damion Gardner rounded out the top-five.  Clauson is the points leader when the series resumes in April.

 

LARSON WINS SUPER LATE MODEL DEBUT AT NEW SMYRNA

2010 King of California Kyle Larson, driving a #36 car for Tim Russell Driver Development, won in his debut in a pavement Super Late Model on Saturday night.  Larson took the lead from Ben Kennedy on the final lap to win the Pete Orr Memorial 100 at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, FL.  Larson will return to Florida on February 17 for the World Series of Stock Car Racing.

 

ANTIOCH AND MERCED SPEEDWAYS RELEASE 2012 SCHEDULES

John Soares' Antioch and Merced Speedways have released their 2012 schedules through a new joint website for Oval Motorsports, Inc.  Racing will begin on March 30th at the newly reshaped Merced Speedway with the appearance of the popular World of Outlaws.  Anitoch's season gets started on March 17th with Wingless Sprints and Dirt Modifieds highlighting the cards.  Schedule links are available on the bottom right On the Radar.
